Circpod
Circpod is a hybrid cabin that provides a cocoon like incubator for visitors to inhabit on their journey to reconnect with “self” through a retreat into nature.
The narrative behind the design of Circpod is based on the circadian rhythm, which is primarily an incessant oscillation of activities displayed in most biological organisms including humans. Circpod is developed to allow three major survival activities of sleep/rest, work/activity and meditation to be embedded into a single faceted contiguous volume. To break the monotonous rhythm of work-sleep cycle, the spaces or functions internally are visibly accessible allowing the user to freely choose, without having to open doors to view a specific space for a particular function.
Tectonically Circpod gets its rigidity from three wood cladded stud walls with batt insulation core, which extend from the circumcenter of the crystalline forms. These forms are created by a structural frame of round hollow aluminum pipes connected together using a machined ball joint system. It is a quick and strong assembly with a high performance three layered insulated fabric draped over and attached to the frame with rivets. The fabric surfaces dematerialize the skin of Circpod, to create a warm cozy space.
This project was produced as a competition submission for the Ozolini Teamakers in Latvia, organized by Bee Breeders.
